Topic Champions for supply chain growth

Hutchinson joined the OEA in June 2023 as the very first Topic Champion. Within this role, their aim is to help develop the OEA develop engagement with the regional supply chain. In particular, to promote networking and collaboration and to provide a forum for industry requirements and challenges to be shared and, where possible, met from within the region.

Key highlights for Hutchinson have been the first Supply Chain Event held at their Liverpool based workshops which gave both the opportunity to see steel manufacture up close, alongside an open discussion with existing and potential supply-chain members aimed at developing opportunities within the region.

Hutchinson will continue supporting further supply chain events over the coming months, using their role to provide discussion and networking opportunities, bring together developers and supply chain companies active in the region, and enabling regional business to showcase capabilities and potential.

Topic Champion for skills in North Wales

The renewable and low carbon energy industry is a key sector for north Wales and ensuring that there are enough people with the right skill set for the industry is key for the RSP.

By joining the OEA, the RSP have been able to work with partners and industry to help to inspire the younger generation to follow a career in the energy sector, but also to collaborate on targeted programmes to develop, enhance and upskill the current local workforce, ensuring that individuals possess the specific expertise needed for various roles within the offshore energy supply chain.

The RSP proactively identify and address potential skills gaps by working closely with industry stakeholders to understand emerging trends and requirements, then work to implement measures to bridge gaps through targeted training and education programmes.

Topic Champion for manufacturing and innovation

AMRC Cymru run an Accelerating Decarbonisation and Productivity through Technology and Skills Programme which is a business intervention program that provides manufacturers in the county of Flintshire in north Wales with unparalleled access to advanced manufacturing technology engineers and demonstrators, knowledge transfer, training and upskilling in digital and decarbonisation strategies.

As well as supporting businesses to decarbonise, we can offer innovative solutions to offshore energy projects through a variety of technologies and in-house expertise. We wanted to lead on the manufacturing and innovation topic as we’re well-positioned to support the industry, whether that be the supply chain or developers and look forward to identifying collaborative opportunities.

Topic Champion for maritime and vessels

Bibby Marine provides solutions for offshore workers through bespoke walk-to-work solutions on Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) and accommodation (floating accommodation barges). Their vision is to be viewed as the UK’s leading clean and most committed SOV operator and a positive influence in the energy transition.

In 2023, Bibby announced the successful awarding of funding from the Zero Emission Vessel Infrastructure (ZEVI) competition. This trailblazing initiative sees the construction of the world’s first low / no-emission electric Service Operation Vessel (eSOV).

The vessel will be a game changer for our industry – supporting its ambitions to turn the UK into the world’s number one centre for green technology, create jobs and accelerate our path to net zero.

Topic Champion for Ports

Ports serve as vital hubs for the logistical operations of the offshore energy sector.

ABP’s extensive land bank at key strategic port locations ideally located to major offshore wind development sites means they are well placed to continue to support the continued growth of the offshore wind sector.

ABP’s port locations offer the most cost-effective solutions for offshore wind development and operation. Currently supporting the offshore wind sector in the OEA region is Barrow. Port Talbot and Swansea Docks have the potential to support floating offshore wind developments in the Celtic Sea.
