A record 8.4GW of offshore wind capacity has been secured through Europe’s largest-ever offshore wind auction, marking a major milestone for the UK’s clean energy ambitions. Among the successful projects is RWE’s Awel y Môr fixed-bottom offshore wind farm, located off the North Wales coast, unlocking significant new opportunities for the local and regional supply chain across North Wales and North West England.

The award provides long-term revenue certainty for the project, enabling it to move forward with confidence into the next phase of development and delivery, while creating a strong pipeline of opportunities for businesses across the offshore wind supply chain.

Helen K Thomas, Offshore Energy Alliance (OEA) Co-chair and Team Lead for Supply Chain Development at RWE said:

“With this successful Contracts for Difference award, one of Wales’ biggest renewable energy investments can now progress toward the next phase of development and delivery with confidence.

“Having spent several years developing and refining our plan and building relationships with stakeholders and suppliers, our next steps will be to undertake  additional onshore and offshore site investigations during 2026 ahead of starting construction.

“We will of course ensure that our local communities, suppliers and other relevant stakeholders remain fully informed as we progress – and the OEA will play a crucial role in ensuring we reach the local parties we need to engage and bring along with us towards final delivery”
